With a 200 foot elevation from the first tee on The Judge, we know that as we approach No. 16, it is another water hazard surrounding the green. It seems adding extra challenge to the par-3s is a theme for The Judge. At number 13 the lack of water is definitely made up by extensive fairway bunkers. 12 a par-3 it is surrounded by water and a marsh. On the back nine we find a hole or two that seem simple but quickly find hazards that come into play. When water doesn’t come into play, hazards and bunkers bring challenges of precise shots.
It is impressive! Initially, water isn’t a factor. Now to tackle this challenging and demanding course. We can see the Montgomery skyline peeping above the treetops in the distance. Standing on the tee box 200 feet above the fairway on the first hole of The Judge the scenery is magnificent. The starter shares that The Judge has water on 14 of its 18 holes. Today we are playing The Judge that features stunning vistas along the backwaters of the Alabama River. The Senator is a Scottish-Links style course, while The Legislator is a more traditional course that plays in and out of pine trees and along a bluff overlooking the Alabama River. Featuring three unique championship golf courses, it offers golfers three drastically different golf courses. We are most impressed with the clubhouse, the staff, and the conditions of the course. It also consistently receives praise from golfers. Reading about Capitol Hill we learn it is named the #2 public golf facility in the country by Golf World readers. Overall, enjoy yourself, be safe, and keep these natural areas clean and nice for everyone to enjoy. Also, if you feel so inclined, bring a bag, and a reacher, and take some stuff out. Please be responsible and clean up the trash after yourselves. I would say, after seeing a lot of flotation devices popped and strung along the shore and in the trees, certain types of devices are not going to work in the creek.
There are numerous areas where you can stop and get out, to rest and have lunch or snack. Sometimes, you may have to climb out and walk but overall expect to just float down and navigate. There are some shallow areas and you have to maneuver your way through them but it is nice. The temperature, despite it being in June, was nice because of the cool breeze and lots of tree cover.
We were in Kayaks and I must say, it is smooth sailing for most of the creek. With Team RWB Montgomery, Creek Improvement Committee, and friends we cruised down and were able to collect some trash and make some adjustments to the overall creek.
